Frankfurt nightlife
Although it is best known for being the financial center of Germany, Frankfurt also surprises for an important nightlife : in this city, in fact, some famous nightclubs and some of the best world-famous German DJs were born.
If during the day the German city is interesting for its important attractions, including the Museum of Modern Art , the Main Tower or the Romerberg Square , even after sunset Frankfurt is able to entertain even the most festive spirits with a wide choice of trendy clubs, very well attended. Frankfurt's nightlife could hardly be described as opaque. Thanks to a prominent student population and a varied offer of nightlife spread throughout the city, backpackers looking for a great night out rarely leave Frankfurt unsatisfied.
Frankfurt was the cradle of techno music and hosted some of the most important clubs in the world, including the legendary Cocoon club , which had Sven Vath as resident DJ: it is precisely here that this musical genre was born and spread throughout the planet. Even today , Frankfurt nightclubs continuously host events of international importance that host the best DJs in the world.
vibrant and diverse nightlife mirrors its young population, made up mostly of students, expats, business people and the wealthy young banking elite. So, while the city center is unmistakably home to a number of trendy wine bars frequented by wealthy businessmen, the less central neighborhoods are more suited to the large student community, and have a more artistic vibe, with the presence of many cheap bars and pubs with a younger and more alternative atmosphere.
Frankfurt is home to over 40,000 students. And you can certainly feel their presence in the Bockenheim surrounding the university. Here, the streets are full of bars and cafes crowded with students most nights of the week. Closer to the center, the Salzhaus caters to a cocktail-loving crowd, while the Kaiserstrasse and the area surrounding the station (the Hauptbahnhof ), in particular, is known as Frankfurt's red light district .
One of the districts of Frankfurt with the liveliest nightlife is Sachsenhausen , located south of the river, where there are also many pubs serving ebbelwoi (the local cider), especially near Affentorplatz . Also between Dreieichstrasse and Bruckenstrasse there is a good concentration of bars.
Frankfurt loves jazz and in the city there is a high concentration of clubs with live jazz music: in particular, Kleine Bockenheimer Strasse is known as “Jazzgasse” for its concentration of jazz clubs. The most important jazz club in Frankfurt is the Jazzkeller , a historic venue that has hosted the likes of Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie.
